2. Design

It doesn’t have a ROG sub-brand, but it looks almost identical to one in terms of design and aesthetics. FX503 is a cheaper option, but it has a nice texture on the exterior and interior. You won’t notice a massive difference between the FX503 and the ROG Strix at first glance.

The components that help the laptop process graphics naturally make it bulky (adding the fans). It also comes with an optical disk drive which adds bulk. The FX503 is bulky and heavy, so it is hard to carry in a backpack. This laptop is not comfortable, especially if you have to take it everywhere.

3. Ports

There is a good selection of ports on the FX503. The Ethernet and HDMI ports are located on the left side of your laptop. There is also a mini DisplayPort and two USB 3.0 ports. You’ll also find a second USB 3.0 port and an SD card reader on the right. Two heat dissipation vents are located on the back.

4. Display

The 15.6-inch Full-HD screen is 120fps and will allow you to make the most out of all your games. Although FX503 may not be the first laptop with such a display, it is highly appreciated.

However, the FX503 feels slightly stale, even if the refresh rate is not an issue. This is especially true when the FX503 is a gaming laptop that has been jumping on the 4K and HDR bandwagons over the past few months.

5. Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard on the ASUS FX503 is superb and will satisfy gamers’ needs. The keys are well-traveled and provide excellent tactile feedback. The keys can also be backlit, making them easier to use in dark environments.

ASUS has also distinguished the WASD keys with their easy positing and backlighting. The keyboard gives you a more accurate and precise sense of key-presses.

The laptop’s touchpad is large and well-placed. The touchpad is easy to use for navigation and gaming. Gestures on your Touchpad can make it more productive and efficient.

6. Performance

You won’t experience any performance issues with an Intel Core i5 (or Core i7) processor and 8GB DDR4 RAM. This can also be expanded up to 32GB with an NVIDIA GeForce 1050 graphics card with either 2GB or 4GB RAM. A 128GB SSD with 1TB SATA storage is available.

The ASUS FX503 can handle heavy multitasking, browsing heavy, and lengthy gaming sessions. It works quickly and efficiently no matter what you throw at the laptop.

It’s a gaming laptop, so we tested NFS Payback and Far Cry 5. The performance was excellent. The games loaded quickly and displayed impressive frame rates. We did notice some frame drops in Far Cry 5 on High settings, but this was fixed promptly by lowering specific settings.

It comes preloaded with Windows 10 Home, making it easy to plug and play. A 4-cell 64Wh battery supports all this.

7. Sound and Webcam

The front-facing speakers provide a clear sound experience that is immersive while watching videos or playing games. The speakers use ICEpower technology to improve the sound quality.

You also get a front-facing microphone array that allows precise and crisp voice pickup. It’s a decent webcam and will work well for Skype calls.

8. Battery Life

This laptop is gaming-oriented, so it has decent battery life. If you are web browsing or writing articles, your battery life will average around 5.5 hours.

It is better to use the cable only when gaming. Because the ASUS FX503’s entire charge was dissipated in just one hour and four minutes while it was playing games or performing high GPU work, For optimal performance, make sure it is connected to a power source!

9. Gaming and Graphics

The laptop is not the most expensive on the market, but it has many features. We ran several games, including Asphalt 8, GTA V, and Tomb Raider. The Asphalt 8 ran flawlessly without any issues. This is not something to be proud of as the game runs well on mobiles. The Forza Motorsport 7 was also tested, and it ran very smoothly. The device was very responsive when we changed the resolution to medium. We noticed no frame drops, and it returned an extremely smooth experience. We saw frame drops occasionally when we turned the settings to maximum. The device also struggled with extreme graphics and thermals.

The Tomb Raider game ran smoothly, and we were able to experience an average of 50 frames per second. Although the frame rate dropped a lot when we increased the settings, it was still very playable. The Grand Theft Auto 5 was our last game. It returned approximately 50FPS with default settings. However, when we increased the specifications to the maximum, it dropped to around 30FPS. The gaming experience was excellent on the laptop. However, it does get boiling during continuous gaming. The laptop does not have thermal throttling, which is positive as it can run at full speed throughout gaming.

10. Heat

The device is very heat-resistant under regular use. This is thanks to dual fan technology that cools each CPU and GPU using copper air vents. The laptop can get very hot when used for gaming or other heavy tasks. The laptop heats up in the area just above the keyboard, but the keys remain functional without any significant temperature changes.

We want to point out that the fan can get very loud as the device heats up. The sound is quite loud, and it is impossible to hide from it. Asus claims that the device does not experience thermal throttling, which means you can enjoy the best performance in all conditions.

11. Pricing

There are two options for the Asus FX503: The base variant starts at Rs. It costs Rs.69,990. The base variant comes with an Intel Core i5 processor. There is no SSD-based storage. This variant only has 2GB of graphics memory. The higher-end variant is priced at Rs. The higher-end variants cost around Rs. 87,990 and have a faster Intel Core i7 processor, 128GB SSD, and better 4GB graphics RAM.

Final Verdict

ASUS Rog FX503 gaming laptop is mid-tier. This laptop is an excellent choice if you are looking for a gaming laptop at a reasonable price. This laptop is more focused on gaming, but you can use it for creative and productive video/photo editing tasks.

ASUS Rog FX503 is a good choice for its design and build quality. Due to its design, the laptop is a bit heavier than expected. It would be hard to transport it. The laptop can only be charged for 3-5 hours. It’s still a great deal at this price! We recommend the higher-end model if you are a professional or have a dedicated gaming computer.
