Scorpions are one of nature’s more intimidating small creatures. Their tail and pincers are weaponized to fight off enemies and destroy their prey. It also turns out that their bodies glow in the dark.
Why Do Scorpions Glow?
According to kidsdiscover.com – apparently, I’m not smarter than a 5th grader -All scorpions fluoresce under ultraviolet light, such as an electric black light or natural moonlight. The blue-green glow comes from a substance found in the hyaline layer, a very thin but super tough coating in a part of the scorpion’s exoskeleton called the cuticle.
Scorpion Turns Blue Under UV Light
The video below shows a carefree man letting a scorpion walk on his arm. When a UV light shines, the scorpion’s exoskeleton glows blue. Credit to r/oddlysatisfying for the cool video.
